DC Max welcomes the announcement by the State Government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regarding the development of a major new data centre at Dummerstorf, near Rostock. Schwarz Group, as buyer, will invest at significant scale in the location.
The announcement confirms plans for an initial expansion stage of 240 MW and an investment volume of €5.6 billion by 2033, representing one of the most significant digital infrastructure investments announced in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
DC Max has worked on the Dummerstorf opportunity since 2023, as part of its strategy of identifying and developing locations capable of supporting the next generation of large-scale European digital infrastructure.
Dummerstorf combines several of the characteristics increasingly required by major data centre developments: substantial renewable energy generation within the wider region, proximity to major transmission infrastructure, available land and strong engagement from regional and local stakeholders.
The project has required sustained work by DC Max and its project companies across site development, energy and infrastructure requirements and engagement with relevant regional and local stakeholders. The project was jointly financed by Avelios Alternative Assets, an affiliate of DC Max.

Recognition of regional stakeholders
DC Max would like to recognise the important contribution of the Government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the municipality of Dummerstorf and the regional and local authorities that have supported the development of the opportunity.
DC Max also recognises the important contribution of 50Hertz in relation to the energy and transmission infrastructure requirements, together with StALU, the district administration, Rostock municipal utilities, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Andreas Neue, Spyridon Linardakis (VBP sites and projects GmbH), Avelios Alternative Assets and the many other public-sector, infrastructure, business and technical stakeholders who have engaged constructively with the project.
The development of major digital infrastructure requires close collaboration between developers, infrastructure providers, government and local stakeholders. DC Max is grateful for the engagement and support the project has received.
The changing geography of European digital infrastructure
The Dummerstorf project reflects a broader structural change taking place across the European data centre market.
Rapid growth in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and sovereign digital infrastructure is creating requirements for power and land that are increasingly difficult to accommodate within Europe’s established data centre clusters.
DC Max’s strategy is therefore focused in part on identifying locations outside traditional data centre markets where the necessary combination of power, land, connectivity and stakeholder support can be assembled to create institutional-scale digital infrastructure opportunities.
Dummerstorf provides a significant validation of that approach and demonstrates the potential for new European locations to accommodate the next generation of digital infrastructure investment.
